I wanted to send this quick note to recognize and congratulate the team of PBPers who participated in last Friday’s 2010 Battle on Broad Street. This is a 4-person basketball event that Junior Achievement puts on at the Wachovia Center. It’s a double elimination tournament where the winners had to play a grueling and suspense filled 8 rounds of basketball.

There were 24 teams entered from huge firms like Accenture, Lockeheed Martin, US Air and Merck, and our team prevailed against the odds.

The trophy is in the process of being engraved and should be on display at PBP soon.

Way to go guys!

Nicole and Tammi did a great job at coordinating the swap. Thanks for such a fun and memorable event! Hope to see you all there next year!

I hope everyone enjoyed the Editorial/Marketing conference last week as much as I did. I definitely learned a lot and it was great to finally meet with some of the offsite editors that I don’t usually get the chance to.

All of the presenters were great, and the breakout sessions were really helpful. Even though all of the presentations were good, I did have a few favorites. John’s presentation on Survey Monkey showed me a very useful tool that I didn’t know much about, and gave me some tips that I hope to use soon. Also, Dannie’s presentation on writing better copy was really beneficial to me. It made me think of different formats and ideas that I hadn’t been using before. Overall, it was a great experience and a lot of fun too.

Special thanks to Dannie and Carin for putting together a great conference. All your hard work and planning paid off. Job well done!

Not sure if everyone has heard yet, but on October 29th, Ed Satell is going to be honored as Humanitarian of the Year by Caron Treatment Centers for his ongoing support of their Children’s Education Program. Below is an excerpt from Caron’s press release about Ed, The Satell Center for Executive Education, and the Humanitarian of the Year award. Congratulations again, Ed! Well deserved!

******

The Richard J. Caron Humanitarian Award is presented to those individuals who continuously demonstrate the same caring and compassionate nature expressed by the Caron’s founder, the late Dick Caron. “Ed is a remarkable community leader who has generously given his time and resources to make a difference in the lives of many families,” said James McManus, Caron’s Regional Vice President in Philadelphia.

Satell is founder and CEO of the Satell Center for Executive Education, www.satellcenterminimba.com the educational source of choice for over 50,000 executives and professionals across the nation in 2009 alone. The Satell Center delivers practical, actionable information in a flexible learning environment. The focus is to help professionals apply skills and strategies to immediately improve their own effectiveness and potential, as well as the performance of their organization.

In addition to the various business ventures that Ed founded, the Children’s Education Program at Caron is just one of the many philanthropic efforts Ed Satell supports. This one-day program provides children not only with the coping tools needed to handle their parent or sibling’s addiction, but also empowers them to make healthy decisions while improving self-esteem.

“Innocent children suffer when their parents abuse alcohol and drugs,” said Ed Satell. “Caron is a great institution that has helped many families address the seriousness of addiction and achieve successful recoveries.”

The Caron Treatment Center is a nationally recognized non-profit provider of alcohol and drug addiction treatment. For over 50 years, they have provided various treatment options for adolescents, adults, as well as families whom are affected by the disease of addiction.

PHILADELPHIA, Oct 08, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Caron Treatment Centers will honor Philadelphia Business leader Ed Satell with the 2009 Humanitarian of the Year award at the addiction treatment centers’ Richard J. Caron Gala on Thursday, Oct. 29th at 5:30 p.m. at the Crystal Tea Room.

The Richard J. Caron Humanitarian Award is presented to an individual who, in the estimation of the Caron Board of Directors, demonstrates the same spirit of caring and compassion exemplified by Caron’s founder, the late Dick Caron.

“Ed is a remarkable community leader who has generously given his time and resources to make a difference in the lives of many families,” said James McManus, Caron’s Regional Vice President in Philadelphia.

Satell is founder and CEO of the Satell Center for Executive Education, www.satellcenterminimba.com the educational source of choice for over 50,000 executives and professionals across the nation this year alone. Dedicated to delivering practical, actionable information presented by some of the nation’s top business leaders, practitioners, and consultants in a flexible learning environment, the Satell Center and its affiliates helps professionals apply skills and strategies to immediately improve their own effectiveness and potential, as well as the competitiveness and performance of their organizations.

Ed also founded Progressive Business Publications (PBP), a diversified information company with multiple divisions, headquartered in Malvern, PA. These include topical newsletters subscribed to by over 150,000 business, professional, government and non-profit executives; a center for education and employment law; compliance materials for all fifty states; a gifts and incentives division and more.

Satell’s quiet but extensive corporate citizenship/philanthropic efforts are focused on five major areas: disadvantaged children; community and civic engagement; higher education; basic research, particularly stem cell, cancer and alternative energy initiatives; and his heritage. Satell supports targeted philanthropies, normally with continuous funding, personal involvement and experienced guidance. He has established two charitable foundations, the Satell Family Trust and the Progressive Business Publications Charitable Trust Fund.

One of his most recent efforts was to provide the initial funding for a Children’s Education Program at Caron to aid children ages 7 to 15 who have been affected by a parent or sibling’s addiction. The one-day program is designed to educate children about the consequences of drug and alcohol abuse and addiction by using an approach specific to their age group. The program provides children with the coping tools they need to live with an addicted parent or sibling, thus improving their self-esteem, empowering them to make healthy choices and opening new lines of communication with family members.

“Innocent children suffer when their parents abuse alcohol and drugs,” said Satell. “Caron is a great institution that has helped many families address the seriousness of addiction and achieve successful recoveries.” Individual tickets for the gala cost $250. All Gala proceeds benefit Caron Treatment Center’s scholarship programs. For more information on purchasing tables, please contact (215) 628-9779.

About Caron Treatment Centers Caron Treatment Centers is a nationally recognized non-profit provider of alcohol and drug addiction treatment.
